Turns out it wasn't the Eagles' new defensive coordinator who was waiting for national signing day to pass before announcing his was leaving college for the NFL. It was the new offensive line coach.
In what looks like the biggest coup new head coach Chip Kelly has managed, the Eagles are expected to name Alabama offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland to run their unit. A league source said the hiring, reported by Footballscoop.com, "is likely to happen."
Stoutland, 50, had the best offensive line in college football last season, for the national champion Crimson Tide. He coached there two seasons, coming from Miami, where he has been among those implicated in the scandal involving booster Nevin Shapiro. A recent Palm Beach Post story said Stoutland is cooperating with NCAA investigators.
Stoutland's 2012 Alabama line featured Chance Warmack, a guard who could be among the top half-dozen or so draft prospects, Rimington Trophy winner Barrett Jones and tackle D.J. Fluker, who also could be a first-round draft pick this April.
Previously Thursday, a league source confirmed former Browns linebackers coach Bill Davis will become the Eagles' defensive coordinator.
- Don't know about the 4th pick. But, if you could trade down in Round 1 and pick up Warmack and trade up (from Round 2) and nab Fluker (who is a PHENOMENAL rush blocker) that would be a decent first step in re-building the O Line mess that Reid left Chipper.
BP2 - Andy would draft an OT. We have no idea what Chip will do.

Alabama ran a totally different style of offense than Oregon. Does this then lead one to really believe Kelly will adapt his gameplans at the next level? I keep asking this question because Im more concerned with the type of offense he decides to implement and the type of QB he chooses than who the coaches are. Defense needs a ton of work regardless, esp in terms of quality players. peteike- We're just going to have to wait and see.

Seeing that the Cleveland Browns went undefeated and were crowned Super Bowl champs, I cant see why they wouldnt try to bring over their entire coaching staff. Hopefully we can get some of their players as well. I know I'm asking way too much but it would be nice to have "all pro" players at every position like the Browns do. Geno D
Pete, everyone the birds have hired to coach ran different styles than Kelly ran in college. None of the hirings "make sense". Bottom line is you need talent to win. Great players make coaches look good. It's on Howie to bring in the players. Howie needs to stop bringing in these playboys who do not hit like Namdi and bring in hard nose tough mined guys like Seth Joyner. Wakes
Everything starts with the Offensive Line. Rebuild .. New Season.. Let's just hope the focus is on running the ball with authority.. For once in 15 years...

Next year will be fun...... No Andy stardog
Could be a good hire. Although, when you have the best recruits in the nation, your line should be the best. In the NFL, the draft process leans more toward parity. Often the best coaches -- Harbaugh, Tomlin, Belichik, et. al. -- make the difference. We'll see. Nothing to be pessimistic about with Kelly and company. And also no real reasons to be riding high, yet. armchairGM
We know he can achieve greatness with the cream of the crop of recruits. Now we get to see what he achieves with mediocre draft picks. yobill626- There are two great OTs in this draft and we pick 4th. We might get one.
Peters and Mathis were FAs, not draft picks. Both played in the SEC. bc3030
Seems like Kelly has put together a real stew of a coaching staff. On the surface, it looks like there is no rhyme or reason. I sure hope he knows what he's doing... yobill626
If the eagles are the gold standard what are the Browns? The brown standard? More like a skid mark. woody7236
atleast he's not from the browns. psualum
Success starts up front and coach Kelly is off to a solid start with Stoutland from a Champion; keep it up Couch Skip VICTORY AWAITS !!! johnnyu john ullman
