Best QB still playing?
Daily News staff
The four quarterbacks still standing in the NFL playoffs present an interesting picture ...
In the NFC, you have Donovan McNabb, who will be playing in his fifth NFC Championship Game and has been to one Super Bowl. Only four QBs in NFL history have started more than five conference championship games. They are Joe Montana (7), Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, and John Elway (6 each). With five, McNabb will join Tom Brady and Jim Kelly. Only seven QBs have started in more playoff victories than McNabb’s nine. They are Montana (15); Bradshaw, Brady, and Elway (14); Brett Favre and Staubach (12); and Troy Aikman (11).
Arizona's Kurt Warner is a two-time NFL MVP who was named the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIV in St. Louis' victory over Tennessee in the January 2000. He also started the Super Bowl two years later in a loss to New England. Now 38, Warner had not played in a postseason game since January 2002 before leading the Cardinals to two victories in the last two weeks. He has a 7-2 career postseason record, with 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
In the AFC, Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger won a Super Bowl when the Steelers beat Seattle in February 2006 and has a 6-2 postseason record. He has 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a .628 completion percentage in his postseason career.
Baltimore's Joe Flacco is just getting started. The rookie from Audubon, N.J., and Delaware is the first rookie to win two playoff starts as the upstart Ravens knocked off Miami and Tennessee in the last two weeks. He is 20-for-45 for 296 yards and a touchdown in the two wins.
That led us to the poll question you see here. Be sure to vote and then you can weigh in with your comments below.
The 3 rd and 4 th best Quarterbacks of their generation will be duking it out in the desert this weekend. Go EAGLES! McNabbHOF
Just returned after 3 months in Phoenix, becoming familiar with the new Cardiac Cards. Eagles fans should not overlook this team; the game is not a slam dunk. Warner is driven, almost out of his mind accurate, focused, etc and he has Super Bowl experience on a team no one expected to win either. He had 2 future HOF receivers - Fitzgerald and Boldin, if healthy, and Breaston's not bad. They have a potential HOF running back who is fresh, taken out of storage late in the season...Edgerrin James...if their offensive lines holds, the Eagles will be hard put to stay even in a scoring frenzy. The Eagles have to control the tempo somehow, hope Fitzgerald has an off game, make no mistakes themselves and rely on the tight ends. frinkie
McN has demonstrated getting it done over years, often in the face of max bs from his own"fans". all qb's periodically have bad games, bad seasons, bad teams and bad teammates. the getting it done reveals the better ones over time. Despite no SB wins, D McN is a peer or superior to the other 3. KimA
The real item is which O line will protect any of those QB's so they don't fall apart. McNabb will do fine if the O line continues its great work of protection. The oddity is , will the Cards O line protect Warner before the blitzes of Jim J. get to him. So, the best QB will be the guy whose O line protects him into the Super Bowl and beyond. KGKoons- Who the **** voted for Joe Flacco. I hope we get him in the SB, hey may never recover. gho_matt

Belisarius....McNabb sucks in just about every big game. He hasn't been too good this postseason either but the defense has been dominant. Kurt Warner is the best QB on this list. Put him on the eagles and they would have had homefield advantage throughout the playoffs and would have been hammering everyone. Warner is the best...then Roethlisberger. McNabb is 3rd and Flacco rounds out the list. Flacco has tremendous physical tools but he needs to master the NFL throws. McNabb still can't make any of those throws consistently. Remember, when McNabb was Flacco's age he was backing up Doug Pederson. aldro17

The poll results above are amusing. No homer spin there.LOL I could help but notice that the overall playoff records were reported for Ben and Curt, but conspicuously absent for Mr McNabb. Could it be that his record does not measure up? Aldro is correct. If we had Curt this year(or several other QBs for that matter) we would have romped this year. If we are to win this weekend it will be due to another major effort by the defense. Let's hope Donovan does not lose the game. He got away with two interceptions last week. This week that could be devastating. obergruber
believe big ben is the best standing and has an excellent running game to work with. mcnabb second but first in whining. curt wagner is old and it will show this weekend. he was the best seven years ago. joe falcco is a young guy managing a very good running game with a defense that scores touchdowns. JACK V
aldro, really? Warner is throwing to 2 probowl receivers, mcnabb is throwing to a rookie and some other guys off the street. We would NOT have home field or even a bye if warner were our qb. belisaurus, he pretty much doesnt have westbrook right now. Westbrook is really injured and it shows as he is ineffective. Mcnabb is the best on this list. jl404580
