Asomugha: No regrets about signing with Eagles

Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha says he has no regrets about signing with the Eagles, but told the New York media that he was "really close" to signing with the Jets in the offseason.
“I have never, have not and will not regret it,” Asomugha said on a conference call with Jets reporters. “Our story still isn’t over yet, so there is always something to learn and we’re still fighting.”
The Jets offered him a 4-year, $40 million deal, according to reports. The Eagles signed him for 5 years and $60 million, coming in with what he termed an offer in the "11th hour."
“I was really close and the Eagles came in in that 11th hour,” Asomugha said, “and all along I’d always admired the Eagles and they were the team that, if they were involved, that was where I wanted to be.”
Asomugha has not had as good a season as he and the Eagles expected, but that could be said about a lot of players as the Eagles sit at 5-8.
“I think the tough part about that is the fact that the expectations were really high coming into it,” Asomugha said. “Even if my expectations were realistic, the expectations that were out there, I think, I kind of let that get to me, as well -- the expectations [that] everything will be and must be perfect with this team now that they’ve acquired these players and blah, blah, blah. I always have a realistic approach to it, but I kind of let that seep through and then that made the losing of it all a little bit tougher, a little bit more difficult to deal with.”
The Eagles, of course, paired Asomugha with Asante Samuel. With the Jets, it would have been Asomugha and Darelle Revis.
“Hey, I respect his game,” Asomugha said of Revis. “I always have. It’s a difficult thing in this league to match up, to line up and play one-on-one football. I know that first-hand, so I’ve always respected that about him and about the Jets’ scheme. Even with [Jets corner Antonio] Cromartie, it’s a tough thing to do. I don’t know what it would have been like. It’s what we do best, so I don’t know what it would have been like.”

"line up and play one-on-one football", "it’s a tough thing to do", "It’s what we do best" ... Nnamdi Asomugha on what he & Revis do best! Someone please tell the Eagles this! ChangeISNeeded
Eagles Fans: Plenty of regrets about Asomugha signing with Eagles DelawareRiverRat- 5 years and 60 million, he has to be able to do more than just line up and play one on one football. The Eagles need him to play various ways in the backfield and Nnamdi had to learn. Too bad it was a rough season but he'll be a better all round corner in the future.
Uh...lemme see...Mike Pettine, who, in his first season as a defensive coordinator in the NFL installed a completely new defense and fielded a unit that ranked first in points allowed, total defense and pass defense...or Juan Castillo...(I mean 60 mil vs 40, wink,wink)...nice try Nnamdi...What you meant to say was no regrets on my way to the bank...keep drinkin' the kool-aid folks... wvbillz
Who wasn't delirious when we got Nnamdi? His Eagles career isn't over. Don't be a 20/20 hindsight loser. Leegles
Why would he have any regrets? He has not performed well for the Iggles. reveugene
He's well paid, doesn't cover, and can't tackle. He should be happy. 4thand10
@wvbillz:
I get the point you are trying to make, but it would help your case if you didn't cite incorrect stats. Jets are 11th in points allowed, 6th in total defense, and 6th in passing defense. Penfold18
He was "really close" to covering Marshall in the end zone until that ball came along at the "eleventh hour." dasher
Comment removed.
So is he really supposed to say "nah, I should've gone to the NY Jets?" Think about this, he goes to the Jets and we would have gotten the "other" Cromartie and could have made book ends. NC Eagle Fan
Sorry Pen, I meant last years stats, which are much more relevant considering that's when Nnamde found his 11th hour...Also, I agree that the Jets defense is an extension of Ryan's well respected and established style...I now officially rest my case...thanks for the help Q... wvbillz
TNEaglesFan, do you think Revis would be the best corner if he played zone the whole time? Was Babin anything other than a bust until Washburn played him in his wide 9 at Tenn.? Nnamdi is a man-to-man cover corner at an elite level! One of the philly.com writer's earlier post showed Nnamdi's man coverage on Larry Fitzgerald and on those plays, Larry was shut down. It's Castillo's fault for Nnamdi's problems. krh66- Ok, so the experiment failed....maybe we could get in at 8-8....who knows? But I do know this, trade Ashante for a 2nd Rounder...his ability to only play one side is limiting Nnamdi's role for the Eagles....Give DRC or Marsh a chance to win that other side...Draft a Big Game Changing LB and DT and we are in business....Let Allen and Graham have a year to heal, and they should be ok...This team will be dangerous next year!
With millions pouring out of pockets, why should he have any regrets.
Nnamdi Asomugha = Lance Parrish.
