As the online fan balloting for the Pro Bowl heads into its final week, we know two things: Asante Samuel is the only Eagle leading at his position, and people in Minnesota spend a lot of time on their computers.

Samuel is the leading vote-getter at cornerback, with a narrow edge over Green Bay’s Charles Woodson. Samuel, who has seven interceptions, has 258,751 votes to Woodson’s 251,505.

The more amazing stat is that of the 19 NFC positions, a Vikings player is leading at 11 of them. Of course, the fan vote only counts for one-third of the total, with the players and coaches representing the other two thirds.

Online voting continues through the end of Monday night’s Redskins-Giants game, with the rosters to be announced on Dec. 29 on the NFL Network. (You can vote here)

Some other Eagles-related notes in yesterday’s release of voting totals:

* DeSean Jackson continues to make an impression on the fans. He is second among wide receivers with 377,807. Larry Fitzgerald leads with 684,698 votes. He also is second at kick returner (122,792) behind Minnesota’s Percy Harvin (298,208).

* Donovan McNabb is fifth among quarterbacks, behind Drew Brees, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers and Kurt Warner.

* Leonard Weaver is second among fullbacks (99,169), behind Minnesota’s Naufahu Tahi (147,168)

* Brent Celek is not in the top 5 among tight ends. Tony Gonzalez leads followed by Jeremy Shockey, Vernon Davis, Jason Witten and Visanthe Shiancoe. And if you have not heard of him, he plays for the Vikings.

* Kicker David Akers is second (99,075) behind Minnesota’s Ryan Longwell (159,863).

PLAYOFF POSITION

The Eagles can clinch a playoff spot on Sunday in two ways, according to the NFL.

1. An Eagles win or tie and a Giants loss or tie.

2. An Eagles win and a Dallas win or tie.

NINERS INJURIES

Left tackle Joe Staley was held out of Monday night’s game as a precaution as he continues to recover from a sprained right knee that he injured Nov. 1, Niners coach Mike Singletary said in his day-after news conference. It is unclear whether he will return to face the Eagles. His backup, Barry Sims, injured his knee Monday against Arizona, so that could hasten Staley’s return.

Also, Michael Robinson, the former Penn State quarterback, is listed as day-to-day after suffering another stinger in the Cardinals game.

As the Eagles get back to work today with practice, the 49ers will have only meetings. Singletary canceled practice to get his team some additional rest.

It's an imperfect system that ends up as a popularity contest or a past years achievement award. Always has been. And hey, who cares anyway, hopefully the Eagles have something better to do the week after and none of our guys are playing in the Pro Bowl anyway. And as long as we're on it, shame on the NFL for taking it out of Hawai'i. Had a chance to go to the islands in 2004 and went to that game, amazing place.

BTW the NFL is wrong... If the Eagles win they clinch a playoff spot. There is no way for the Giants to catch us because we own the head to head tie breaker (worst Eagles record 10-6, best Giants record 10-6).

No t4e25, because if the Eagles and Giants both win, we could still end up in a 3 way tie with the cowgirls, which has different tiebreaking scenarios.

In my opinion, Asante's total lack of tackling ability should disqualify him from the Pro Bowl.

As for the Pro Bowl voting, DeSean will probably get in at WR. I'd also have Fitzgerald first, and then would consider Jax in a mix of S Rice, Colston and a couple others. Asante? Don't get me started. he's not half the all-around CB Woodson is, and there are 5-7 others I'd take over him in a heartbeat. As far as QB, it's a crowded position this year --think NL first basemen, with Brees as this year's Pujols. I'd have McNabb third behind Brees and Favre off this year's play. Rodgers would be close, and Warner a distant 5th or 6th.

t4e25 you would be incorrect. Yes the best the Giants can do is 10-6, but the Cowboys could also be 10-6 in which case the Giants could win the division becuase of a better division record and then Dallas could be second based on head to head. Not likely, but possible so just an Eagles win would NOT clinch anything

bill1966 McNabb is 5th in the NFC. the stats you have are for the NFL. And McNabb missed 2 games so had he played, he'd be 2nd or third in yds in the NFC.

Let's hope no Eagles play because they will have a more important game the following week.

Dierte, We often agree, but it's not just Asante's tackling (or usually, the lack of) that has me totally unimpressed with his play. He freelances so often jumping routes that he must get burned 5-7 times -- some for long gains or td's - for every ball he takes away. And his "for who, for what"- like comment (well, they knew what they were getting when I came here) and penchant for dumb penalties and showboating makes him, possibly, my least favorite Eagle. I do recognize that he came up big with picks in the first two playoff games last year, and even had a good hustle play against the Bears that ended up saving us 4 points. But Pro Bowl? don't begin to see it. Bill 1966, In your own way, you're almost as hopeless as grandpa and wolf when it comes to McNabb. The most important number for a QB is W-L record, and when you consider that McNabb is 8-3 with young receivers, an inconsistent (to say the least) O-Line, no Westbrook and a mediocre D, the guy is having a great season. So, go ahead, cite something useless like total yards when the guy has missed 2.5 games, and also sacrificed more personal stats to include Vick.
