UPDATE AGAIN: Andy Reid then issued a statement through the Eagles on the trade talk involving Samuel and his conversation with Samuel this afternoon.

"I am aware of how Asante felt and we have since talked. We both left with a positive feeling going forward. As I have said previously, when we acquired Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha, we had received numerous calls on the availability of out cornerbacks. After discussing significant trade offers with other teams, we decided to keep all three cornerbacks on our team. Asante is a valuable member of our team and we appreciate all that he brings to this organization.

"As far as my relationship with Howie and Joe, I have a great deal of respect for both of them and I know we are all on the same page."

UPDATE: Asante Samuel issued a statement later to quell the situation that he started earlier:

"Earlier today, I let my emotions get the best of me. Everything's good and I'm happy to be here. I had a talk with coach Reid this afternoon and I now have a better understanding of how business works in the NFL. Let's get a win Sunday.”

Eagles coach Andy Reid told reporters today that he was sure Asante Samuel would have no more to say about Samuel's hurt feelings, in the wake of reports the Birds tried to deal Samuel at the trade deadline.

That turned out not to be the case.

Samuel affirmed his respect for Reid but also delivered a blistering sermon on "some people upstairs" who "probably never played football."

Here are his words:

Samuel: "Everything’s good. Me and Andy are good. That’s all that matters."

(Do you feel wanted?) "By Andy. Some people upstairs might not want me, but who cares. They probably never played football."

"They run it like a business, so they’re going to do what they need to do. Upstairs, they’re playing with a lot of money, playing fantasy football. They’re doing their thing."

(Your "business entity" quote from last week's radio interview, and perception that you might be playing for yourself)" As long as I’m here, as long as I’m getting paid on Tuesday, I’m going to go out and do my job to the best of my ability each and every Sunday. I play for the fans, I play for my teammates. That’s what it’s all about."

(Are you talking about general manager Howie Roseman and team president Joe Banner, as those people upstairs)? "Howie and Joe? Do they fit the comment I made? Are they upstairs playing fantasy football with all this money? OK."

(Do you want to be somewhere else) "Do I want to be somewhere else? I want to be where I’m wanted. Wherever I’m wanted, I’m here right now, so I’m wanted here."

"As long as I get paid on Tuesday, I’m going to do my job."

(Don’t you think Andy is on same page as Banner and Roseman) "No, actually I don’t. I think there’s a power struggle around here. But it’s all good. Like I said, me and Andy are cool. I’m here to play for Andy. He’s my head coach. That’s what matters."

(Fearful that speaking out will hurt you down the road with other teams?) "Not at all. I’ve never been a troublemaker. I’ve always been a leader. A player that goes out and is productive and does what he’s supposed to do."

(Misunderstood?) "People gotta realize I’m a real guy. I’m a realist. I keep it real. I’m always going to speak the truth. I live and die by that. That’s the only way I know. It’s no disrespect or anything. That’s just me. I’m not going to sugarcoat anything. That’s’ why I stay out of here (media availability in locker room) most of the time. Keeping it real with y’all always goes bad."

(Adding DRC and Nnamdi) "I was happy for Dominique when they traded for him. I was definitely happy for Nnamdi when they signed him. But when they made the call to me and told me they were trying to trade me, that’s where it went bad. It’s not a rumor. It’s a fact."

(He said that was during the summer, not at the trade deadline.)

(Happy here?) "I’m happy here. Always been happy here. Like playing ball here."

"The scheme is the scheme. It’s a new defense. It’s not the same defense like we always ran. We got a new face. We’re not the same aggressive blitz defense we used to be. New coaches, new players, new scheme. We’re just trying to put it all together. I don’t think anybody’s being used incorrectly or whatever."

(Pressuring with front four) "We used to be a blitz-happy team. We always applied the pressure. Now, we’re sitting back and using our front four (to pressure the qb).

(Washington game) "Last game was a big stepping stone for us coming up with 3-4-5 turnovers whatever we had. We gotta build off that. Our main goal is to keep creating turnovers and disrupting qbs and stopping run."

(Not letting this distract him) "It’s my job. No matter what I think, it don’t matter. I still gotta go to work and earn my check and support my family. What’s said is said, what’s done is done."

(Reid) "Me and andy talked and cleared it up. Everything is good. Everything’s always been good with me and Andy. He’s my guy. That’s who I play for, that’s who I’ll continue to play for. I go to war for Andy. All the other stuff, it is what it is. Upstairs."

"It sucks. Trade deadline and your name’s flying around out there and you’re supposed to be the leader of the team. But it’s a business."
