Are you excited for the release of the NFL schedule?
Yes
No

As Moving the Chains noted the other day, ESPN's Tim Graham has reported that there have been no conversations between the Bills and Eagles regarding disgruntled left tackle Jason Peters. Graham also reported that it was highly unlikely that Peters is traded before the draft. Of course, the sides do not seem anywhere close to the lucrative contract extension that Peters is seeking, either. (To read Graham's report, click here.)

Well, over the weekend, Allen Wilson of the Buffalo News, suggested that the Bills could be leaning toward trading Peters rather than giving him an extension or dealing with whatever dismay that might bring from him. Peters is seeking $11.5 million per year.

Wilson listed a number of potential trading partners for Peters and speculated as to why they might be interested. The list included the Eagles at the top, followed by Arizona, Green Bay, Detroit, Oakland and the trio of St. Louis, Seattle and Cincinnati.

The perceived asking price is a first- and a third-round pick.

Here is what Wilson wrote about the Eagles' being a potential match:

"The Eagles want to get younger on the offensive line, which is why they didn’t retain free agent starting tackles Tra Thomas, 34, and Jon Runyan, 35. They signed Stacy Andrews to replace Runyan on the right side and are toying with moving right guard Shawn Andrews, Stacy’s brother, to fill Thomas’ spot. But Shawn Andrews hasn’t played tackle since college. Peters would be a better option because he has already proven himself as a Pro Bowlcaliber player.

And the Eagles have plenty of salary cap space to accommodate Peters’ demands.

The Eagles have the most draft picks of any team (12), including two in the first round. But their firstround selections (21st and 28th) are too low to get one of the draft’s elite offensive tackles. They might be able to get Peters with one of the first-round picks. Add that to the 11th choice they already own, and the Bills would be able to get one of the draft’s top offensive tackles while addressing another need at either defensive end, outside linebacker or tight end with the Eagles’ pick."

Meanwhile, Bob Matthews of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, writes that he would only trade Peters to the Eagles if the Birds were willing to part with both of their first-round picks.

"You make a below-average NFL team better by trading one of the best players on the roster. I believe Peters is one of Buffalo's three best players. I don't think he deserves to become the highest-paid OLT in the league, but he deserves more than the $7.2 million in base salary he's due to make combined in 2009 and 2010.

The left guard spot will be filled by Kirk Chambers or Seth McKinney. The new center is journeyman Geoff Hangartner. If Peters were traded, the left side of the offensive line would be in even worse shape. The right side isn't so hot either.

Philadelphia's reported desire to deal for Peters, and presumably satisfy his salary concerns, should be a strong clue that he's a very good football player."

On the draft visit front, South Florida linebacker Tyrone McKenzie is scheduled to visit with the Eagles, according to The Ledger in Lakeland, Fla. McKenzie also has or plans to visit with the New England Patriots, New York Giants and New Orleans Saints. The 6-2, 243-pound McKenzie is rated the 10th best outside linebacker, according to nfldraftscout.com.

The Eagles must be "Crazy" to trade both their first round picks for Peters, we need to draft for the future. By giving a first and a third we would have taken a step back.

I don't trust the Eagles to select an all pro LTackle. Pay em a first and third. Get a back with the other first.

If the Eagles traded their 2 1st rounders for Peters Reid should be hung from Billy Penns Hat at City Hall.

The way Reid has been drafting, He just wastes draft pics any way. Better off getting a proven player for them . Whats Reid gonna do with the pics? Use them to draft a five foot nothing back? Or how about Recievers that are slow and have no hands.

Relax. The only guy suggesting that the Eagles should trade two 1st rounders for Peters is some reporter from Buffalo. Nobody in their right mind is trading two 1st rounders for any offensive lineman unless the guy is Anthony Munoz in his prime. How on earth would the Eagles be making their team worse by trading the 28th pick and a 3rd rounder for an All-Pro LT that is only 27 years old? You sure aren't going to pick up a LT with the 28th pick in the first-round that will be All-Pro quality in his rookie year and 3rd round picks rarely contribute much their rookie year. If the Bills will take the 28th pick and a 3rd rounder for Peters, the Eagles should take that deal without the slightest bit of hesitation. Reid wastes draft picks? Drafting a slow receiver with no hands? You mean like Jackson last season who practically had 1,000 yards in his rookie year? He's definitely slow with no hands. Let's see, who else has Reid drafted...McNabb, Westbrook, Shawn Andrews, Herremans, Bunkley, Patterson, Cole, Bradley, Lito Sheppard, Trotter, Sheldon Brown, Mikell. Yeah, those were all horrible pics.

Problem is, Peters had one really good year (two years ago) and one really awful year (last year). Which one do we get, if we trade? They paid top $$ for Runyan back in the day, they'd do it again if they were getting a sure thing. Agree with JimG on the value, IF Peters is going to have his act together.

Thank you JimG! Most Eagles fans are idiots. Do you people really think that the Eagles feel they don’t need to upgrade the receivers? If a better player is available they will make an attempt. They brought TO once and made an attempt for Moss. These types of receivers do not grow on trees. Granted the history of drafting receivers is poor and it’s a little early to judge Jackson.

A first and third and a big contract sounds like a decent deal. If they decided to trade up to get Jason Smith or Monroe they'd be spending a lot of money on a high draft pick salary anyway (i.e. Otah last year), packaging another pick and they have more risk than Peters. Although both are likely to succeed, Peters has proven himself already. Seems like less risk for a similar price. And that guy from Buffalo is NUTS if he thinks anyone would/should give two 1st rounders for Peters. I highly doubt anything will happen with Peters (outwardly at least) before the draft, though.

Great comment Jim G, minus the Trotter reference (was not a Reid pick). It is stupid for anyone to think that Reid himself is solely responsible for the good, bad or any draft picks. He hires player personnel people and scouts that dissect film and lobby for picks. Reid basically relies on them to make the final call.
