Another pro-Vick rally set; Vick's work ethic?

POSTED: Thursday, August 27, 2009, 1:02 PM

Another pro-Michael Vick rally has been scheduled for outside Lincoln Financial Field before tonight's Eagles game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A group known as the African Daughters of Fine Lineage along with Generations Unlimited are holding an event to welcome Vick to Philadelphia.

“We’re going to welcome Mike Vick to Philadelphia and show that we support him and that we’re proud he’s now a Philadelphia Eagle," community activist Sacaree Rhodes told the Daily News' Stephanie Farr. "We’re denouncing the racist and vengeful behavior that I’ve seen some of these animal rights people use against him.

“Michael Vick has served his time and lost part of his freedom he’s now trying to move on and take care of his family. I think the animal rights have gone too far. Michael Vick didn’t start dogfighting.”

Rhodes said her group feels like the animals rights groups are trying to interfere with Vick's "well being to make a living.”

“We’re not going to allow it and we’re going to holler about the animal rights people trying him, being his judge jury and prosecutor over and over again," she said. "It has to stop.”

Texans quarterback Matt Schaub appeared on the Dan Patrick Show on the radio the other day and was asked about Michael Vick. Schaub, from West Chester, was Vick's backup with the Falcons.

Patrick asked about suggestions that Vick had a questionable work ethic.

"There were definitely signs of that," Schaub said. "He's such a phenomenal athlete. No matter what happened on the field, he could always overcome it with his athleticism. That was always his fall-back."

Schaub said he and Vick had a good relationship and described him as "such a great guy." He said he tried to encourage Vick to stay longer at the practice facility and spend more time in the video room. "You can only say so much to someone until a light clicks in their brain," Schaub said.

This subject is an interesting one, in part because Donovan McNabb was asked about embracing the role of being a mentor to Vick when Vick signed and this is what McNabb said:  “I’m looking to just show him kind of how I prepare, show him me getting there 6:30 in the morning, working out in the morning, getting your body ready to go, get ready for meetings and then staying after until 6, 6:30 to watch film. Then let him know exactly what I do at home or to just kind of get away from football and get my mind focused on the next day and spending time with family."

Vick has been putting extra time in with the Eagles after practice to get acclimated to the system and Andy Reid mentioned how Vick spent the players' day off earlier this week at NovaCare to get in an extra workout and some added preparation time.

While the Eagles have put great emphasis on this, the third preseason game, as most teams do, that is not the case for Jacksonville.

Playing their third preseason game in 11 days, the Jaguars’ regulars will see limited action, if any, tonight. The team’s three starting linebackers all will sit. Jacksonville plans to use next week’s game against Washington as the dress rehearsal for the opener.

“I don’t think it’s the same as it has been for us this year due to our schedule,” Jags coach Jack Del Rio told reporters. “It’s a tight turnaround for us. I think we need to share the workload. That’s what we’re going to do.”

Meanwhile, former Eagles offensive tackle Tra Thomas makes his return with the Jags. "I think it'll be a pretty warm reception. I mean, I didn't ask to leave," Thomas told the Daily News' Marcus Hayes. "I gave everything I had. I didn't leave on bad terms."

If you miss tonight's game, the NFL Network is airing a replay at 11 p.m. tonight and at 4 p.m. Friday.

Vick is a crappy QB and even worse person. Who cares what the African Daughters of Fine Lineage or NAACP says Vick was wrong and these people are just helping mold society for the worse because they cant seem to see past their own stupidity and ignorance. Once this is over these people will go back to their crappy lives and Michael Vick will be laughing and taking his money to the bank, he could care less about your group or any group. Your nothing but a bunch of dogs to him...

The dude served his time. He didn't get off like O.J.. He went to jail and lost all his money. He was convicted in a court of law and sentenced by a court of law. What more do people want to see happen to him? Then you have these folks saying he should be tortured like he did the dogs. The same people saying this are in the position to say these things because there ancestors raped and murdered to give them this privledged American life. I don't see them wanted to give up everything because of what was done in the past. American Hypocracy at its best.

Racism is when you make a statement about an entire race. It's not racism when you make a statement about an individual. Just because Vick is black doesn't mean a statement about him personally is racism. If someone said "All black people are x. Vick is black so Vick is x", it's racism. To say that Vick is disgusting because he tortured and killed dogs for entertainment is not racism in anyway unless you can prove that non-blacks treat other people who are guilty of the same crimes differently. That's not the case. Despite the fact that he paid for the crime does not make him a different person. And when people talk about second chances, they are talking about letting someone prove that they are no longer the disgusting person that they were. It doesn't mean they get to play professional football. I'll be an Eagles fan again after Vick is gone. If they win the Super Bowl with Vick, I won't be watching.

Cornelleast, if you hate America so much, then leave! No one is stopping you. I don't get you blaming people for the faults of their so-called ancestors. That is the one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Yeah, I'm going to start blaming an entire race of people or ethnic group for the sins their ancestors committed onto my ancestors. Newsflash, it's not just white folks who tortured and killed people in the past. Pick up a book and do a little reading. This kind of stuff was happening all over the place, from Asia, to Europe, Africa, to the Middle East. Everyone's ancestors were guilty of something. People who don't like Vick don't like Vick because of what HE personally did. Well, I guess according to you and the other ignorant folks that feel the same way then I must be a racist. Ha! I must be one of those hypocritcal, white people you speak of. FYI, I am not Caucasian, but you are a fool.

There is certainly a streak of racism running through some of the criticism of Vick. I do not see this coming from the animal rights groups as I would think most people in animal right groups would be sensitive to minorities cause they thinkn animals are an opprssed minority. Vick committed a crime. He is allowed to work and has a pretty good salary that if he behaves for the next year can certainly go much higher in the coming years. Vick is not a victim, the dogs were. He is not a hero he is a man getting a second ( or third fourth or fifth depending on how you look at it) chance. Wish him luck. But he has to show us a lot more than being a great athlete.

Why would anyone think that the animal rights groups are the only ones entitled to have a voice? Sorry but it doesnt work that way. They can rally against Mike Vick all they want too, but that doesn't mean counter-groups can't rally in support of the guy as well. That's how it goes. They aren't entitled to rant with no opposition to what they're saying. These groups keep saying he shouldn't be playing in the NFL, well, you have groups saying they support the Eagles decision. What's the problem? If they dont like being talked BACK TOO, they can catch fire.

Eagle Fan or Not! We all have our own beliefs and opinions. I'm not one who interferes with ones beliefs, So here's mine. I must say as a Christain and a child of God. Poeple shouldn't throw stones at glass houses, because none of us is perfect. We all have and will do something that we're not proud of during our lifetime. Many of you including myself didn't approve of what Michael Vick has done in the past. I thought it was horrible what he did because I'm a animal lover. So, is it also OK to hunt and kill deer every year for game and pleasure? This man has paid and still paying for his actions. But, the man did his time. He had a judge and jury. He was punished and still has to answer to authority in the future. He's working with the humane society and getting educated on his past actions. WHAT!, should we kick him, spit on him, throw things at him, call him bad names, or even kill him like they did Jesus Christ? All of you who have not sinned cast the first stone. WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES!!! That's one thing I noticed about this great country USA, they will condeem you over and over again until you're broke down. The bible teaches us to love and forgive one another. I'm so glad God gives us grace because man Won't. What more do you want from Michael Vick. I would take it better if you just say you don't like him, because you never did. This now is not only about Michael Vick. Its also about his family, his children going to school having to hear this about their father, on the news everyday. When it comes to children that's when I draw the line. What if it was your son, brother, uncle or father. This can happen to you. You're taking about his job, being able to support his family. The Philadelphia Eagles can sign whom ever they want. Its no money out of your pockets. DON't support the team. It's just that simple. Enough is Enough! He has rights too. LET MICHAEL VICK ALONE, he has to deal with his own conscious. WE ALL HAVE TO ANSWER TO A HIGHER POWER!!!
