Weaver wants McNabb to return
Daily News staff
Eagles fullback Leonard Weaver has become among the first players to publicly weigh in on the McNabb trade situation.
Weaver was interviewed by Ross Tucker on Sirius Radio this afternoon. Tucker sent out a few tweets with Weaver's comments.
"I'm surprised," Weaver said. "Let the man go ahead and play the last year of his contract out ...
"Not a knock on Kolb, but I would love for Donovan to come back for another year so we can try to win it all."
From earlier:
It is hard to know what to believe these days with the Donovan McNabb trade rumors, but here is an interesting sidelight that does not exactly involve McNabb, but does involve one of the teams reported to be in hot pursuit.
Michael Lombardi reports in his Sunday column for the National Football Post that the Oakland Raiders are discussing the availability of quarterback Sage Rosenfels with the Minnesota Vikings. Lombardi writes that the Vikings would only trade Rosenfels if they knew for sure that Brett Favre is returning.
Rosenfels was acquired from Houston before last season and had a chance to compete with Tavaris Jackson for the starting job until Favre came to Minnesota. Rosenfels was the third quarterback the entire season.
By the way, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that there have been no indications of talks between the Eagles and Vikings about McNabb.
And the Oakland Tribune has maintained no one in the Raiders organization has said there have been talks with the Eagles. Other reports say there have been.
Could the Raiders be interested in Rosenfels as a backup plan in case they can't land McNabb? Rosenfels would certainly be a much cheaper -- and much, much less accomplished -- alternative. Could acquiring Rosenfels be another QB to battle for the starting job and provide some insurance should JaMarcus Russell continue to struggle, but also represent Oakland's intention not to give up on him completely yet? Obviously, the Raiders would not be getting McNabb to be Russell's -- or Bruce Gradkowski's -- backup.
And the drama continues ...
- mish798798 - Because people don't give number one picks for 33 year old players. lol Besides we DON'T know what is going on and who really tried to get him, all we hear is rumors. ChrisM

Why can't writers just stfu until something actually HAPPENS!! TBear
Maybe the Vikings are willing to trade Rosenfels because they know they can get McNabb and forget Farve. deepinthought
I guarantee you all that after getting a years dose of what brett favre is all about, i betcha dollars to doughnuts that childress wants mcnabb..i think he cannot stomach LORD FAVRE...... DON17
Leonard Weaver? What does he know? I mean, he's no Lonewolf, for God's sake. birdseed
Are people really this dense? The reason McNabb hasn't been traded is because of a combination of things mostly due to bad timing. I think that it's interesting that many active and retired players think that the Eagles would be nuts to trade McNabb. I've seen this man get booed at his draft day, had beer poured on him going into the tunnel at home, received the racist criticism by Rush Limbaugh, called a sellout by a NAACP member, had a pair of primadona WR's constantly badmouth him, has a local boxer question his heart every chance he gets, has the hourly backlash from NEGADELPHIA NATION and top of all of that he has the daily bashing in the local paper, websites and media. Never once did he ever criticize any of those who disrespected him. And all this man has done is taken a abismal franchise to 5 Conference Champioships and 1 Super Bowl while playing 80% of the time with offensive rejects. The man has 1 year left it's time for the Eagles to HONOR their contract. As for the guys who keep saying McNabb will never win a Super Bowl when you are finished using your Crystal Ball tell me what lottery numbers to play for PowerBall. How can a man predict the future of someone else when he can't even predict his own? Nothing but the truth
This is about the Super Bowl anymore, we just don't have the pieces to make the run this year. It doesn't matter who starts at QB, what does matter is the class we should show Don for giving us a great run, and possibly more, if Andy and Co. choose...not tearing him down b/c he smiles and plays the air quitar... phigglesfan75
Props to Weaver...and to "Nothingbutthetruth"! To ICanTakeit, The Eagles SB was 5 years ago (2005), and in 2009, they were a half-decent defensive performance from being in (and possibly winning) the SB. And this past year, they only had the 5th highest scoring team in the NFL (ranked second until the last reg season game at Dallas) despite a poor line, almost no "36", and a bunch of rookies and first-year Eagles. To others: There may be a slew of reasons why McNabb has not been dealt yet: 1) The Eagles really don't want to trade him 2) High salary 3) Uncertainty over 2011, and McNabb only signed thru 2010 4) Eagles holding out for more, etc. Do you really think that all the other teams want to telegraph their moves any more than the Birds do? Unbelievable lack of logic, patience and common sense on the part of so many. MG44

McNabb must go! He's too old, too lame, and can't win the big game! Pedro Martinez
Going to be sad when Kolb is the starter and cant get away from the rush and is getting killed back there. A lot of you dopes are going to be yearning for the McNabb era. Excited to read the "Off Line sucks blah blah" and then 20 excuses for Kolb comments. Bring on the Kolb era. Phillies1120
How is it that none of you have figured this out yet? Nobody wants to take a chance on trading for McNabb because there's no guarantee that he'll sign an extension with that team with his contract being up next year. If I were him, I wouldn't resign with the Raiders, Bills, or Rams. I'd either stay put, or hope to work out a deal with the Vikes or Cards, and nobody could blame him for that. sf1027
This sucks. Just trade him already and let's move on. bleedinggreen
@IcanTakeit: The Saints did not pass up on drafting McNabb. They didn't have the opportunity. The Browns took Tim Couch with the 1st pick and McNabb went 2nd to the Birds. The Saints did trade away their entire draft to take Ricky Williams, but they never had a shot at McNabb. mikeyhigs
