Andy: Won't Have Control, Unlike Philly
It might be good to take this with a grain of midwestern steak salt, but former Eagles coach Andy Reid said in his introductory press conference in Kansas City Monday that he and the as-yet-unnamed Chiefs GM will each report to Chiefs owner Clark Hunt. Reid said this was different from the situation in Philadelphia, where Reid had been director of football operations since 2001 and had final say on football matters.

The thing is, though, the Chiefs jettisoned general manager Scott Pioli as they were hiring Reid, which seemed to be a strong hint that the next GM would be someone Andy basically picked, such as former Eagles and Browns GM Tom Heckert or Packers exec John Dorsey.
Reid said he would sit in on GM interviews, but the decision would be Hunt's.
Otherwise, Reid said pretty much what you would expect him to say, attired in a light gray suit with a red Chiefs tie, which looked odd after 14 years of Eagles wear. He said he "came from a fan base that's tremendous, (but) the sea of red is just phenomenal." He said he will be bringing coaches with him from Philadelphia, but that isn't completely settled yet. He said he met with the current staff today, and indicated some of them might survive the regime change.
"I've gotta find that next Len Dawson, doggone it," Reid said, underscoring both the importance of a franchise quarterback, and how long it has been since Kansas City had one.
"We're gonna coach hard, make sure we build a foundation," said Reid. He acknowledged his last few years here weren't good, but he indicated he thinks he should be judged on his entire 14-year reign.
"I can leave Philadelphia saying I gave it my all," said Reid, who is scheduled to speak with Philadelphia reporters on a conference call at 4 p.m.
Good luck Coach (and if please take Vick). Phillies2008WSChamps
Philly people just can't let things go. Why on earth was ABC6 streaming the Reid news conference live from K.C.? Who cares? The guy is gone. expect Reid to do a good job building Chiefs into contention..,it was the final hurdles (from contention to champion) that Ried couldn't get over...by contrast, Eagles may be stuck in pergatory for awhile, and Phillies are even more doomed as they have a complete imbecile g.m. still defended by ownership and writers and too many moron fans warbiscuit
Vermeil went to the midwest to coach a lousy team and won the Lombardi. Could it happen again? Bobby G- Vermeil was a better coach than Reid. He liked tough players, not wussies like Reid. After Dawkins got cut, which Eagle ever got in somebody's face or made them play better? I don't remember anytime an Eagle or Cardinal quit on Vermeil.

Lackofgrammarcommander - If it’s such an "annoyance," than by all means exhibit some self-restraint and stop watching. I doubt you’d heed that advice, however. I assume such menial tasks would be difficult for you, in that you're probably the exact kind of mouth-breathing a-hole who you admonish of anonymous internet forums. CaptAwesome
No question that you gave us all you had and even did it to a fault. Wish you nothing but success in KC but take a step back and rearrange your priorities in life. It doesnt take sacrificing your family to be a winning coach flyers1000
I wish him good luck. On my ride into work today, the driver had WIP morning show on and that obnoxious loudmouth Cataldi is still talking about Reid and running a poll to vote if you want him to fail. Time to let go and move on. Marie Elena
