Andy: Can't Ask Players Not to Quit if I Do

POSTED: Monday, November 19, 2012, 12:43 PM

Should Andy Reid “cop out” and step down?
Yes.
No.

Andy Reid was asked Monday why, if his leadership of the steadily worsening team is ineffective, he doesn't consider stepping down.

"I'm standing in front of the team and telling them 'these are the things we need to do,' one of which is continue to battle," Reid said. "I think that'd be a copout ... that's not how I'm wired. We're going to keep battling, do it as a team. I can't tell the guys one thing and then do the other."

Reid said running back LeSean McCoy has a headache and is in stage 1 of his recovery from the concussion he suffered Sunday. but Reid said McCoy seemed less affected after the game than Michael Vick had been right after his concussion, suffered the previous week against Dallas. Reid said both players are day-to-day. He said Vick feels better, but baseline testing Monday was not normal, which would seem to make it unlikely Vick will play a week from tonight against Carolina.

Reid said he still does not regret leaving McCoy in the Washington game, down 25 points with a minute and 45 seconds left.

"There are a few things that you wish wouldn't happen," said Reid, who seemed to be saying that players and coaches don't want to wave a white flag in the late stages of a loss. On Sunday, Reid had answered questions about McCoy remaining in the game nonsensically, talking about wanthing to catch up and win the game.

"I know we're letting the fans down and the city down," Reid said. "I completely understand that ... There are no excuses."

Reid said team chairman Jeffrey Lurie, who has not been available to reporters, "feels like I do, that we're letting people down."

Andy is too arrogant to quit on this joke of a football team.

    A "non-story."

Why would/should he step down?? While the season, obviously, is lost for him to quit now would be unprofessional and a slap in the face of his players. He's gone at the end of the season - he knows it - we all know it. But conjecture about him leaving the team before that is nonsense. Really.

What self-serving garbage. He has fired players, and now if he doesn't have the guts to leave on his own, he should be fired because clearly he doesn't have the guts to do what is best for the team.

I am concerned that the Eagles are going to just miss the #1draft pick (prob 2nd or 3rd). The Cheifs are looking to fill that spot with the worst record in the league...hopefully they wont pick a QB so the Eagles can do so...similarly, I wonder if the new Eagles coach will be strong in developing a new young quarterback.

Andy, please step down. They hand the losing General a gun to "do the right thing." It's time to stop the madness.

Jeffrie Lurie will keep Andy Reid until he decides to leave and will DARE the Filthadelphia fans to stop going to Eagles games. The Eagles could go 0-32 and the fans would STILL come to the games, pay for Eagles gear etc etc etc...

Actually AR gave up before half time....he handed off the ball and tried to not get a score....so Washington head coach decided to let AR lie in his bed. Sure enough.....AR did - he gave up, tried to run...and gave up a fumble. This coach is not trying to win games, he just does not want to lose. Teams coached this way are not aggressive at all...they are thinking too hard and wondering what to do. The team has quit on AR...and would you blame them? His best player is hurt because of his hard headedness.

I agree with FishFryFrank. Andy Reid is a professional. He will not step down until after the season is over. And then he will probably be fired first by Lurie. After a year or two he will get picked up by a Cleveland or Kansas City type of team.

Good. We want him to stay and suffer as he made us suffer for three years. He has no idea this team is so bad, and he is getting paid a lot of money to know. Stay Andy so we could rub your nose in the worst team in the league.

He's a self-serving power maniac. His days here are over. He's looking out for himself and not the future of the team or fans he falsely claims to be loyal to. He should be playing Curry and others to see what their future may be here but he only cares about himself. At this point the entire focus should be on weak Lurie. Hit him where it hurts. He has no guts. Don't go to the game Monday night. In my opinion, unless you bought tickets to this single game in advance, any fan who supports Lurie by going is a traitor to the Eagles cause. Even weak Lurie will fire Andy mid season if no one fills his pockets, I mean the stands. Quit complaining and take action. Please.

What good is trying to change gears now? A new coach is only going to try to work with the system in place now, rather than to introduce his own designs and expect them to start working in a week or two.

No, let Reid finish the season, and then let Luria can go shopping. Unfortunately there is really no one out there that will please us!

Everyone should get off Reid's back (mostly the media idiots); he deserves to step out on his own after 14 productive seasons.

Can't wait till Andy Reid leaves. Maybe Lurie should sell and take that advice, too.
