All the Eagles arrive

POSTED: Wednesday, July 29, 2009, 6:16 PM

All the Eagles veterans were accounted for at training camp as the 6 p.m. reporting time arrived, the Eagles said. That included disgruntled cornerback Sheldon Brown, who skipped the team's voluntary workouts this spring. The players were scheduled for a 7 p.m. meeting with the coaches.

After Brown rolled up the dorms in a dark blue Mercedes, he explained what Andy Reid was talking about the other day, when Reid's lauded Brown's sense of humor. The Eagles' coach had texted Brown, asking if he intended to show up on time for camp. Turns out, Brown texted back that since he was reading about his age being a factor in the Eagles' decision not to rework his contract, he wanted to know how much time off Reid would give him. Brown turned 30 in March, so he indeed is eligible for Reid's 30-plus club, whose members get every third morning off during training camp.

"I'm here, and I'm going to do what I've always done -- play hard, practice hard, and give it all I've got," said Brown, who could be competing for a starting job with newcomer Ellis Hobbs. Brown said he is reporting in good shape. He said he won't be thinking about the team's refusal to rework his contract, when he's on the field.

"When I come play, I come play," he said. "It's part of being a good corner. You get beat on a play, you've just got to wake up and you've just got to say, 'forget about the last (play).'  The past's the past, you live for the future, and that's what I do."

Brown, the only remaining defensive starter from the Eagles' Super Bowl XXXIX team, added his voice to those mourning Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, who passed away from metastasized melanoma Tuesday.

"He knew how to say bad things to you in a good way, to get up under your skin," Brown said. Brown recalled Johnson taking time to talk to Brown's parents, when Brown was new to the Eagles. "A lot of coaches wouldn't have done that," Brown said.

it's ashame that eagles fans are content with losing. keep a reputation for non-negotiating and keep players away from the team, losers.

The Eagles will go nowhere unless McNabb steps up his game. Last season he was bad in the red zone and in the playoffs he was even worse.

The Eagles are handling Brown exactly as they should. With a salary cap league, some players will always be overpaid and some undepaid. Thats just the way it is.

Non-negotiating? Keep players away from the team? Jason Peters, Stacy Andrews, Leonard Weaver, Sean Jones, etc. beg to differ.

no i get that, i got that. but the headline shouldn't read ALL THE EAGLES arrive. the article should support the headline. i'm guessing headlines are becoming more and more B.S. just to get people to click on it. these guys get paid per click i imagine. more clicks more money. i see lots of misleading headlines more and more. poor reporting. if they want traffic why not just put the headline "T.O. gets traded back to the eagles" or "T.O. questions mcnabb's sexuality" or "phils trade everything for halladay including cliff lee". fine, i'm splitting hairs. maclin's not technically an eagle till he signs. say, i wonder if they'd make a crazy trade of lee, happ, and pedro or moyer for halladay. hah..

Re headlines - they are usually written by a HEADLINE writer not the author of the article - just an aside....

i woould rate Harold Carmichael and of course Mike Quick as the best Eagle recievers of modern times. And we drafted Cris Carter who was pretty good. Macklin a rook getting some real bad advice.

This is a BLOG....not a newspaper or journal article. There are no headline writers or editors. Just a blogger posting information. That being said, I agree that the headline would mislead many into thinking that everyone, including Maclin, reported on time.
