Agent: No McNabb Talks Yet

POSTED: Thursday, February 19, 2009, 2:13 PM

Fletcher Smith, agent for Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, said Thursday he has not yet begun discussions with the team about McNabb's contract, despite published reports to the contrary.

Smith said he expects to get to Indianapolis, site of the NFL Scouting Combine, tonight for tomorrow's meeting of player agents. Smith said he and Eagles president Joe Banner generally have lunch together after that meeting, and Smith said he expects that will be the case this year, as well. So the talks very well could start then, but Smith emphasized that nothing has been set up.

A source close to the situation suggested this week that McNabb would be willing to come to Indianapolis, if that was what it took to have the sitdown with team management McNabb has been seeking. Smith said that wasn't going to happen, with Indianapolis the center of the NFL world right now. "How much privacy would you have for that meeting?" he asked. "We will get to all that in due order."

McNabb has two years left on his current contract, but a new deal with guaranteed money would make a demotion, a trade or a release more unlikely.

Meanwhile, the top offensive linemen in the 2009 draft paraded before the media at the Combine. There are four sure-fire first-round offensive tackles, and the Eagles, who draft 21st and 28th in the first round, might very well end up with one of them, even if they have to trade up. Your Eagletarian would like to suggest the Birds do whatever is necessary to draft Baylor OT Jason Smith. Is he better than the other three? I have no idea.  I do know, when asked about the concept of signability, Smith said: "I will be at camp on time, whatever team picks me." Agent Ben Dogra probably cringed, but that's the guy Eagletarian wants. There is nothing worse than trying to cover a training camp no-show.

Smith also competes in team roping, a rodeo event that requires him to ride a horse -- not an easy thing to envision, for a guy 6-5, 309. "I got a pretty big quarterhorse," he explained, in case anyone was thinking of notifying the SPCA.

You guys are funny lol. No McNabb story, none of this "banter" (I use the term loosely) and downgrading to sexual orientation accusations. Oh, I did find this that made me think to come on here: lonewolf, your boy Ike Reese had this to say about McNabb: "Teammates like running back Brian Westbrook now speak of McNabb’s carrying the Eagles. Reese said that the Eagles would be watching the playoffs had Reid not benched McNabb. McNabb now reminds Reese of the man he played with, a quarterback Reese said has earned a new level of respect in the locker room." Sounds like IKE REESE respects and likes Donovan McNabb. Oh no! He's an apologist! lol (It's from a New York times article on #5.)

I wish I could see how these talks are going. Well Donavon, you've only thrown our season down the toilet for the last 7 years for 115 million, how about we give you some more that we could have given to a big time free agent wide receiver.

PHILLYKING-what??? what seasons did he throw down the toilet? if you call going to the Championship game 5x down the toilet-what do you consider the seasons of those teams that don't go that far? as for Management springing $$ for a free agent wideout--the next time that happens will be the first. get a clue before you talk trash.

Please goo Mac! You have enough money for your future and maybe all the injuries will not impair your life in the future. Let the negotiations breakdown and make you an unhappy camper that the organization could not tolerate. Start the negotiations by demanding a trade. Sit out if necessary fro as long as necessary. Take a pay cut from another team if necessary and WIN WIN WIN! I will be your biggest fan.

I was born in Philly and I enjoyed basketball teams from other cities, because I like the style of play of those teams. It's my choice to appreciate my preferences. What I can't understand about these guys who always talk negative about the composition of a team is why don't you just choose a team that meets your criteria rather than lather yourselves about what you don't like. It's simple. Why spend negative abusive energy to constantly complain about something you don't like that you can't change. There is no law that compels you to root for your home team, providing that this is your home. It sounds like an 'ATTENTION DEFICIENCY DISORDER' that keeps you locked into ignorant ranting like it is a job to aggravate with inane babble. Every city has an online newspaper..and it's FREE! Why not escape your little world and travel in another Free zone.
