DeSean to IR as Eagles' Spiral Continues
Les Bowen, Daily News Staff Writer
The Eagles' unfolding disaster got a little worse Tuesday when Andy Reid announced wide receiver DeSean Jackson suffered multiple fractures of his ribs and upper chest in Monday night's loss to Carolina.
Reid said Jackson will go on injured reserve, ending his season. he also indicated concussion victims Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy are unlikely to play this weekend at Dallas.
Reid, who does not seem in danger of being replaced during the season, answered a series of questions about his defense's ineptitude. He didn't have any answers.
Reid said the Birds' best defensive lineman, rookie DT Fletcher Cox, is unlikely to practice Wednesday with a tailbone contusion. He said LT King Dunlap has an MCL strain and also is unlikely to practice. Ditto C Dallas Reynolds (ankle).
Reid said Vick will again attempt to pass neurological testing Wednesday, after not achieiving a satisfactory result on Monday.
Reid officially closed the books on LT Jason Peters' season -- Peters, who underwent Achilles' surgery twice in the offseason, had to join the active roster this week or go on IR. Reid said he will go on IR.
"Big plays, turnovers, and then the late penalties culminated in our inability to win that football game," Reid said. "My responsibility is to get this team to play better, and we have not done that. to this point. We will continue to work to get better. That's the only thing you can do at this point."
Reid indicated that one one of the two Carolina touchdowns on which a receiver was left uncovered, the Birds were in a blitz that called for one corner to rush the passer. Instead, two DBs blitzed -- rookie Brandon Boykin was the offender, Reid confirmed when asked.
Indicative of this team's problems, Boykin told the Daily News' Marcus Hayes after the game that he WAS supposed to blitz, and that Nate Allen rotated to the wrong side. Reid said Allen went to the right side.
Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles after the game said the Eagles were unable to execute high school level coverages. Asked Monday if the defenders just weren't smart enough, Reid said he did not believe that was the case.
He was a waste in the red zone. Add another TE and increase the pass protection out there. 2ndNlong
They said last night that the xrays were negative? Did he fall down some steps after the game? Sidewinder7- Some fractures do not show up on X-Rays. MRI today showed fractures.

He wasn't doing much anyway so it doesn't really make much of a difference. SKYMAN
As I have posted since DeSean Jackson gave up and quit last year. Jackson represents EVERTHING you don't want in a football player. Signing Jackson was a message to every other player that said, "Go ahead quit on your team, stop playing hard, complain all day, whine, moan, and cry, lie, drop passes on purpose, and the Eagles will gladly sign you to a long term contract and overpay you." warrentheape
Andy and his boys are clearly milking the "injuries" in the face of a lost cause, giving Limp-Wrist Lurie the excuse he needs to keep Reid for 2013. Get ready for more of the same, Eagles fans! Squizzy Magee
700 Yards, 2 Touchdowns. TEN MILLION DOLLARS. Wow. He's 5'8" and 170lbs with multiple fractured ribs. I guarantee baby Jax never signs antoher contract in the NFL and will not see the end of this one. warrentheape
Btw, I'm sure more heads are going to roll within the Eagles organization -- except the big, fat one, that truly deserves to go -- so Lurie can appear to be "doing" something to fix this travesty of a team. I also couldnt agree more with all of you who said re-signing DeSean was a huge mistake. But why should we be surprised that players who quit on us get rewarded under Lurie and Reed? Squizzy Magee
I'm not much of a collage football fan but I did watch a little over the holiday. What happens to these guys once they make the pro's? The collage kids sure can tackle a lot better. Looks like they get some $$ and figure they aren't going to have to play as hard! Just like a woman after see is married, no need to dress up and look pretty!!! :) Beagle Fan
YO~ warrentheape, did it ever occur to you that Jackson might have "tanked" Foles's first game?? Think he wants this kid to up-stage his "brow"?? Beagle Fan
sweet, now if you can keep reid this classless organization gets what it deserves another losing season...Go Giants! bigtom blew3
To everyone who thought Vick was the problem, think again. There's a reason the Eagles beat team's like the Ravens and Giants, and should've won the close game against the Steelers - they have some of the top offensive players in the league, Vick included. Without an offensive line, a defense that looks completely lost at times, pathetic play calling in the first half of games and in the red zone combined with the fact that Vick and Jackson never make it through a season in once piece, the initial team roster is meaningless. I would bring back Vick for a short-term contract (1-2 years at most) if nobody else wants him, and hope the offensive line and defense improves under a new coach next year. NorthJersey-Philly Guy
Great...We get to SUCK on national TV again! Really Jeffery?? The problem in NOT in the front office, it's on the field. Hmmmm, maybe the problem IS the front office Lamby
Xrays revealed that djax has no heart. DreamShake
what do you expect? He's 5'8 about 150. Can't win with midgets in the NFL. Or gimmicks, like the Wide 9, goofy offensive line blocking schemes and making a guy who never coached on the defensive side of the line your defensive coordinator. Eagles were idiots for signing DJ after what he did last year. DallasEagle
