A 16-year-old boy is missing in Northeast Philadelphia after police say he fell into Pennypack Creek and was swept away.

Police said the teen was with three of his friends by the creek off of the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Ashburner Street in Holmesburg when he fell in and disappeared shortly before 5 p.m.

Last month, 13-year-old Brandon Boyle drowned while swimming in Pennypack Creek near a waterfall off of Roosevelt Boulevard near Winchester Avenue. Police at the time of his death warned that the city's creeks are particularly dangerous after heavy rainfall like this morning's thunderstorms.

Over the years, Pennypack Creek and others in the city have been the scenes of numerous drownings.
