Woman charged in stabbing death of boyfriend

A woman was charged with the murder of her boyfriend after she stabbed him to death in her North Philadelphia home Friday morning, police said.

Vanetta Hayes, 44, stabbed Richard Williams, 31, once in the back with a large kitchen knife inside of a house on Van Pelt Street near W. York at 12:35 a.m., said Homicide Lt. Philip Riehl.

Williams lived sometimes at his mother's home and sometimes at Hayes' home, Riehl said, and he would often come and cook dinner for Hayes.

But when he stopped by Friday morning, Williams was shocked to find that Hayes would not let him in.

Riehl said that Hayes had hung out with another man at a casino and he was in the house with her when Williams stopped by.

After he was denied entry, Williams tried to climb into the house through a window and when he did Hayes stabbed him in the back, according to Riehl.

"There was no history of abuse," Riehl said.

Williams was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:24 a.m.
