Woman followed from train station, sexually assaulted

Police are searching for a man who followed a woman from a SEPTA concourse in North Philadelphia, pulled a knife on her and sexually assaulted her in a parking lot on May 26.

Around 9 p.m., the victim was leaving the Broad Street Line’s North Philadelphia station on Broad Street near Lehigh Avenue when she noticed that a man was following her, police said.

The man eventually caught up with the woman, pressed a knife to her stomach and forced her into a parking lot on 15th Street where he sexually assaulted her.

The suspect was described as a bald black man in his 50s, who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall, has dark brown eyes and thick eyebrows.

The man was wearing a blue apron over a red polo shirt with white, yellow and lime green stripes around the edges of the collar and sleeves. He was also wearing black boots and was carrying a tan and black jacket, police said.

A surveillance camera on the train recorded footage of the suspect and police posted it online in hopes that help from the public will lead to an arrest.

Tipsters are asked to call the special victims unit at 215-685-3251 or the tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477). Tipsters may also reach the department online.
