Woman charged for running over pedestrian – twice

A pedal-happy driver has been charged for running over a pedestrian, putting her car in reverse and running over her again.

A pedal-happy driver has been charged for running over a pedestrian, putting her car in reverse and running over her again.

Police say that 22-year-old Shakarah Jones of North Philly was at the intersection at 8th Street and Allegheny Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Saturday when she hit a woman who walked in front of her 1996 Pontiac Grand Am westbound on Allegheny Avenue.

The person in Jones' car, along with witnesses, told her that a woman was under her car. But instead of listening to the voices of reason, Jones put the car in reverse and ran over the pedestrian again, causing extensive injuries, and fled the scene, police say.

Jones fled on foot after she hit a parked car at the intersection of 25th and Firth streets where she then fled on foot. Police obtained owner information from her car and charged Jones with aggravated assault, simple assault, aggravated assault by vehicle and driving without a license.
