Woman, 32, charged in connection with gun found at North Philly school

POSTED: Wednesday, February 13, 2013, 6:12 PM

A 32-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a loaded gun recovered at a North Philadelphia school earlier this week, police said.

Latanya Pressley, from the 1500 block of Judson Way, is charged with recklessly endangering another person and a violation of the Uniform Firearms Act. Police said would not elaborate on her connection to the 7-year-old student, but said she is not related to the boy.

Authorities said the boy, a first-grader at Reynolds Elementary near 24th and Jefferson, brought a loaded .357 magnum revolver into the cafeteria before school and was showing it off to some friends. A student alerted a school police officer, who took the boy to the principal's office.

The student has been suspended, but is not facing charges, officials said. Police characterized the boy as a "good student," but declined to say how he obtained the gun.

She should be sentenced to 10 years in prison, with NO chance of early release , EVER. But, Apologists and Enablers will disagree - and blame everything except the woman.

Terrible parenting! This single mother who is probably collecting welfare should have taught her child to carry his weapon concealed. Never show the other first graders you're packing heat.

Wait a minute! This single mom should immediately seek help from the NRA. Didn't their star witness just testify that single moms need to be able to carry concealed weapons and assault rifles to protect themselves? This was an hones mistake. They should go after the real criminals, scientists doing research on climate change and stem cell research. Signed Marco Rubio

Sure, Marco/Mick, but this isn't just about Ms. Pressley's rights. How about the kid? Now that they've taken the .357 away from him, how is he going to protect himself? The NRA needs to step up for him, too.

Darn! I wanted to insert a Dirty Harry Callahan quote here, but alas, his was a .44, not a .357 Magnum Revolver.

Most good kids would show off a gun in school. Sure.

Why do little kids keep coming to school with guns in their book bags? Because adults keep putting them there. Now, why do the adults put....never mind.

"Not related to the boy".... so what do the single mother comments have to do with this?? I guess people don't read before they copy and paste the same comments.

Guns in school bags are the latest fly fashion accessories but the ignorant people posting here wouldn't know that. It's a cultural thing...you wouldn't understand.

What am I missing here? Can't they just apologize and claim that the kid brought the gun into school for "Show and Tell"?
