Passengers aboard Philly-bound jet from Germany had to help flight crew restrain a Wisconsin man after the man flipped out early into the nine-hour flight last night, authorities said.

The man, who sources identified as Alex Matthew Nelson, 21, of Apple Valley, Wisc., "was acting erratically from the minute the flight took off until it landed," said Nancy Norris-O'Dowd, an FBI spokeswoman. Norris had no details on what the erratic behavior entailed, and spokespeople from the Philadelphia Police Department and the U.S. Attorney's office had no further details. The aircraft involved was U.S. Air Flight 707, which originated in Munich, Norris-O'Dowd said.

Nelson is now undergoing a mental and psychiatric evaluation at the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. He faces charges of interfering with the operations of a flight crew or aircraft, pending the outcome of his health evaluation, Norris-O'Dowd said.
