A man died tonight, slain in a violent struggle inside a home in Powelton Village, blocks away from Drexel University.
Just after 7:30 p.m., police responding to a report of a person with a weapon stumbled upon a gruesome scene inside a home on Summer Street near 32nd, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
Collapsed in the home's blood-stained kitchen was a 57-year-old man who had been stabbed several times in his neck, torso and head, said Small.
Medics pronounced him dead about a half-hour later.
"There was blood on the walls and floor; obviously there was a violent struggle in the home," said Small.
Also home at the time was a 59-year-old man, who lives at the residence. He surrendered to police and was taken into custody as a suspect in the slaying, Small said.
Two women at the home told police that the two men got into an argument, a heated spat that escalated into the fatal stabbing, said Small.
It's unclear what the argument was over.
Those women are currently being interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives.
Police recovered a 6-inch folding knife that they believed was used in the attack.
A 3-year-old boy was asleep in an upstairs bedroom during the incident, and was not injured, said Small.
