Two people attacked by crowd on SEPTA concourse

An 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were beaten earlier today by as many as a dozen teens on an underground concourse near SEPTA's Walnut/Locust subway stop.

The unnerving attack unfolded between 3 and 3:30 p.m., after the victims got off the Broad Street subway line, said SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch. They were set upon as they headed across the concourse towards an exit.

"The thought is that this was a random, spur of the moment attack," he said. "It doesn't appear that these two people were targeted."

The victims were treated at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for cuts and bruises and later released.  No arrests have been made. Busch said the concourse is not monitored by any video surveillance cameras, but is often patrolled by SEPTA cops and Philadelphia police.
