Two veteran cops charged with stealing public utilities
A pair of veteran Philadelphia police officers were arrested and charged Tuesday with stealing utilities from PGW, PECO and the Water Department.
Lt. Aisha Perry, 53, faces six counts of theft of services, conspiracy and risking a catastrophe, police said.
Officer George Suarez, 54, faces 10 counts of theft of services, six counts of conspiracy and 10 counts of risking a catastrophe, police said.
Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey will suspend both cops for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.
According to a law enforcement source, the theft of services involved two properties: Perry's house on Winchester Avenue near Narvon Street in Northeast Philadelphia, and a rehabilitation center called Clean and Sober Residents on Girard Avenue near 19th Street.
Perry and Suarez are listed in real estate records as the owners of the Girard Avenue property.
Suarez is a 25-year veteran of the force and was most recently assigned to Germantown's 14th District.
Perry, a 31-year veteran of the force, has been on desk duty since May 2011 while Internal Affairs and the District Attorney's Office investigated the theft allegations.
She came under scrutiny again during the summer, when a longtime friend accidentally drowned in her background pool.
Police sources have said that Perry allegedly made several phone calls before calling 9-1-1 to report the drowning. That incident is also being investigated by Internal Affairs.
ugh and the hits keep on coming for PPD. And she is a supervisor. Great example set there.
So she was collecting easy money for last almost 18 months while this was under investigation. Oh my goodness. So she stole from the utilities and the city. criminal justice prof
wow for the majority of PPD who go into work each day and put there lives on the line with honor I salute you. To the small minority who ruin the reputation of the entire department shame on you criminal justice prof
The brothers and sisters run the police dept. Look at all the cops arrested in the last 2 years for things. How about the cover up with the off duty inspector who wanted to make an arrest go away. What a disgrace that Ramsey only suspended them. They ought to make this a federal case. oh well, 2 more pensions to be flushed down the toilet. TheGuyfromPhilly
When will they be fired.Oops,a black female and a hispanic male. They'll get counselling letters instead of a termination like white cops get.And I'm sure she'll win the run part of her next PT test. streak1- From the article, which the 2nd grader you hired to read for you apparently didn't finish: "Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey will suspend both cops for 30 days with the intent to dismiss." Such an angry, little, man.

I wonder if there was inside help, you know, you get free utilities and someone at PGW or the water dept. gets some "help" with some police issues. TheGuyfromPhilly- Doubt it, it's not hard to steal utilities in the city. Esp when the companies pretty much dismantled most of their theft of service depts. There's more theft of these utilities than you could imagine, and it's really not that hard to do.

Criminal Justice Professor: I agree with you. It's always the scum that makes the hardworking honest cops look bad. Same thing with doctors, lawyers and Indian chiefs. BillyBob369
Good grief guys...raciest much? Phillyguycc

Congratulations Philadelphia! We have surpassed the magic number of 50 cops arrested in the last 2 years!
Time for a parade! Chef Yummi
This is the same female who was sued years ago for having cocaine in her system. She came back on the job when she submitted test from her doctor that the cocaine was ingested from swallowing her boyfriend's semen...get what im saying ;) BlindJustice333
I bet the people she called prior to calling 911 were the other 2 white-shirts who hid that arrest...mark my word...it will come out she called one of them. They are all connected! BlindJustice333
So these 2 cops are arrested and fired but LT. Ray Evers and the other 2 high ranking cops from 2 weeks ago were just slapped on the wrist? Why didn't Ramsey fire any of those three officers? Taxpaying Voter
It's about time. She was a disgrace for years!!! There are such good people in the department and disgraces like Perry and Horne ruin it for good cops. Oh wait that's right, Ramsey said he did not feel Horne had intent to commit a crime. He should be next on the list! PhillyP
