Two men arrested in unrelated murders

Police arrested two men in unrelated murders.

Aka Jones has a tattoo on his forehead proclaiming him as a "Bad Guy." Friday, he lived up to his name when police arrested him for the murder of an East Mount Airy man.

It was one of several murder arrests Philly police announced this morning.

In Jones' case, he is accused of gunning down Nafis Armstead, 23, of Horter Street near Germantown Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. July 27 on Sharpnack Street near Musgrave. Armstead died of multiple gunshot wounds at Einstein Medical Center about a half hour after he was shot. Another man, 26, also was shot repeatedly but survived.

Jones, of Devon Street near Roumfort Road, was charged with murder, attempted murder and related offenses. He's being held without bail pending a Sept. 9 preliminary hearing, court records show.

Police also arrested Tyree Peel, 27, of Greenway Avenue near 53rd Street in Kingsessing, in the Aug. 15 gun slaying of Thomas Holman, 26, of Divinity Street near Greenway Avenue. Holman was shot in the head and torso several times on 53rd Street near Kingsessing Avenue about 7 p.m. that day and died 10 minutes later at Penn-Presbyterian Hospital, police said.

Police released no motive in either case.
