Two men arrested in SEPTA platform armed robbery

Two 20-year-old Delaware County men were arrested in connection with an armed robbery at SEPTA train platform on 63rd and Market streets on Aug. 25.

Melvin Peay, of Sharon Hill, and Jerome Jordan, of Aston, are facing numerous charges for brandishing a gun and taking a woman's iPhone and MacBook while she waited for an El train around 8:25 p.m., police announced Friday.

Two SEPTA police officers were patrolling the area of Market Street near 56th on Sept. 7 when they saw a man enter the platform area without paying his fare.

After stopping the man, an officer recognized him from surveillance video of the armed robbery. The man was arrested and later identified as Melvin Peay. An investigation led police to identifying Jerome Jordan as the second suspect, who was also arrested.

Peay, of Orange Avenue near Clifton in Sharon Hill, and Jordan of Stanley Circle near Louis James Court in Aston, are set to appear for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 26, according to court documents.

They're facing 11 charges each, including robbery, aggravated assault and weapons violations. Both are being held in the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility on $200,000 bail.
