Police are seeking suspects after someone shot a Tioga man to death late last night in North Philadelphia.

Carlton White, 32, of Bouvier Street near Erie Avenue, died at 10:08 p.m. at Temple University Hospital, a half hour after he was shot in the chest inside a second-floor bedroom in a home on Beechwood Street near Dauphin, police spokeswoman Christine O'Brien said. Police listed the motive as an argument and reported no suspects.

White was released from state prison in September 2008 after serving six years of a six- to 12-year sentence for a 2002 murder, in which he was convicted of conspiracy but acquitted of a murder charge, according to court records and a state Department of Corrections spokeswoman. He was still on parole for that case when he was killed, a state Department of Probation and Parole spokesman said today. It's unclear whether that conviction had anything to do with his slaying. Tipsters can call homicide detectives at (215) 686-3334 or -3335.
