Three men shot in East Germantown playground

POSTED: Thursday, August 9, 2012, 11:41 PM

A man climbed up on the bleachers at a playground in East Germantown Thursday night and opened fire, wounding three people, police said.

Cops were called to the playground at Wister Recreation Center, on Baynton Street near Wister Avenue, at 9:45 p.m., Chief Inspector Scott Small said. There, they found three men suffering gunshot wounds.

The first, an 18-year-old, was hit once in the upper right leg, the second, a 23-year-old, was wounded in the left calf and left foot and the third, 29, was hit in the left shoulder, Small said. All were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.

The shooter is described as a man in his 20s who wore a white T-shirt and gray shorts and fled the scene on foot.

Police said there were other people at the playground at the time of the shooting. One witness was taken to Northwest Detectives to be interviewed.

Six .40-caliber shell casings, bullet fragments and a trail of blood spatters marked the basketball court where the men were shot.

Police remained at the scene investigating around 11:30 p.m.

ha ha. the culture just fascinates me to no end. the entitlement, the laziness, the drugs, the jealousy...its not urban life - i've lived in this city for the last 17 years. i've seen it go bad, i've seen it come around to where its good in the center city area again. but the outlying areas are where i work and the community that i work in...horrific!! but if they keep killing themselves and living like animals - then most posters to these comments, including me, are just speaking the truth...deal with it aa community. we are appalled because the actions are appalling. i guess everything does in fact revert back to its origin

The tax payers need to bring back lynching since the government will do nothing to stop the rate of crime. Lynching these murderers at city hall by the public will no doubt decrease some of this crime. We have to stop rewarding the thug culture with programs, short incarcerations, and stern lectures. It's just not working.

Councilwomen Donna Reed Miller, Manny Freeman and Germatown Settlement received MILLIONS of tax payor dollars to improve Germantown. Promised commerical and residential development. How is that going? How is Manny's Freedom Square development? The City gave Manny and Donna a free check. What is left? Murder victims and crime.

Lets all hold hands and sing cumbaya. Or we could have a march and sing gospel hymns as we walk down the street. Or we could all gather at the site of the shootings and have a prayer vigil. Or we could gather at the site and have some loudmouth with a bull horn scream " were fired up and ain't gonna take it no mo". Or we could gather at the sites and pass out teddy bears and candles to be left as roadside memorials. Or we could have t-shirts made up with a picture of the deceased flashing a gang sign or holding a weapon stating "RIP BOO". Yes we could and we have done all of that. Keep up the good work what you have done so far is working out really well for your community as a whole.

Last night, three here, four by shotgun in Fern Rock, and a PD shooting. City council, meanwhile, has their priorities, like attacking the Boy Scouts and Chick-fil-a.
