Cops investigating theft, car accident in Center City

Police in Center City are investigating a petty theft that quickly turned into a car accident on 15th Street near Market Tuesday night.

About 10 p.m. two women in a car asked to use a passerby’s cellphone. Police were unsure of the person’s age and gender immediately after the accident.

They pedestrian obliged and handed their phone over — and the women tried driving off with it, dragging the passerby behind.

The getaway came to an abrupt stop when they hit a car in the intersection.

Four people were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries, police said. It was unclear whether charges were being filed against the thieves Thursday night.
