Teen killed in S. Philly shooting

A 19-year-old is dead after being shot six times at point-blank range, police said.

The shooting occurred at about 5 p.m. on Bailey Street near Tasker in South Philadelphia, Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

When officers from the 17th District arrived on the scene, they found the victim lying on the sidewalk. He had been shot six times in his upper torso, back, right shoulder and right leg.

He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 5:33 p.m., Small said.

Witnesses told police that two men were seen fleeing the area after the shooting, one traveling north on Bailey, the other south. No information on a motive was available.

Those witnesses are being interviewed by detectives from the Homicide Unit, and surveillance from nearby businesses is being consulted, Small said.
