Teen clinging to life after stabbing

A 14-year-old boy is in "very critical condition" tonight after a female friend stabbed him in the chest, police said. A 15-year-old girl has been arrested in connection to the stabbing.

Officers from the 17th District found the victim on 22nd Street near Moore in Point Breeze about 8 p.m., Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Witnesses told police that the youth, who lives near where the incident took place, was stabbed once in the chest by a teenage girl he knows, and who Small said is also "familiar to police."

The victim was taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he is currently undergoing surgery and is in "very critical condition."

"He's in really bad shape," Small said. "He was unconscious when officers arrived, and it's unknown whether he is going to survive."

The girl was arrested about 10 p.m. at her home, about a half-mile from the scene, and is being questioned by police, Small said.

Police believe the motive for the stabbing was an argument between the two teens.

Witnesses are being interviewed by South Detectives.
