Three people were injured when a hail of gunfire erupted in a grocery store parking lot early Thursday evening.

Police found two male suspects about six blocks away from the scene, in a vacant house on Cambria Street near Woodstock.

A witness identified them as the shooters, and police took the men into custody without incident, Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The shooting happened shortly before 6 p.m. in the parking lot at Hope Plaza near a Thriftway grocery store, on 22nd Street and Lehigh Avenue in North Philadelphia, police said.

Wounded in the shooting were a 32-year-old man who was shot once in the upper right thigh, a 29-year-old woman who was shot twice in the left shoulder and a 19-year-old man who was shot once in the right ankle.

The victims were taken to Temple University Hospital by private vehicle, police said, where all three were listed in stable condition as of 7 p.m.

Surveillance cameras from two nearby businesses recorded the incident, Small said, adding that part of the scene was located nearby at 22nd and Sergeant streets. Small said police recovered two handguns from the street at the scene.

A witness to the shooting attempted to kick out the back window of a 39th District squad car police put him in after the incident, saying that he didn’t witness the shooting. Police took him to be interviewed.

Police Thursday night did not release the identities of the suspects.

“It’s like every other day — or every fifteen, twenty minutes — you hear about somebody getting shot or killed, man,” said Jesse Daniels, an elderly man who was walking through the parking lot after the shooting. “This city is going to Hell in a hand basket."
