A student is in stable condition after falling from a third-floor stairwell at Chestnut Hill College, police said.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday near Fournier Hall on the school's campus. Officials said the student suffered multiple injuries, including head injuries, and was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center.

It is unclear what caused the student to fall. The college released a statement and is cooperating with Philadelphia police, which are investigating the incident.

"We urge all the members of the College community and the public to keep this student and his family in our thoughts and prayers at this time," the statement said.
