The owner of the Jin House carry out restaurant and corner store in Tacony was shot dead in front of his wife and their 8-month-old child during an armed robbery Friday night, police said.

Just before 7 p.m. officers from the 15th District responded to calls for shots fired inside a corner store on Longshore Avenue near Tulip Street.

When cops arrived, they found the 27-year-old store owner lying behind the counter.

The unidentified man's wife was inside the store holding their child when he was shot.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said the man was shot once in the left side of his chest and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said the store owner and his wife, who is also 27-years-old, live above the shop, and surveillance cameras near the store recorded footage of the suspects.

Neighbors said the store was hardly ever busy, and the suspects couldn’t have made off with much money.

“The most money they could have had in there is $40 or $50,” said Mike Compton, a neighbor who lives across the street from the store. “Come on man, I’ll give somebody $20, you don’t have to kill anybody for it.”

Small said when the suspects burst into the store, the victim put his hands up and told the men to take whatever they wanted.

They shot him and ran from the store without taking any money from the register, Small said, adding that they left a tip jar full of cash sitting on the counter.

"That's why its such a brutal, senseless crime," he said.

The suspects were both armed and were wearing masks, Small said. Surveillance footage recorded them running north on Tulip Street from Longshore Avenue.

No arrests were made.
