7 shot dead in violent weekend across Philadelphia

Police are investigating the deaths of six men and a teenager who were shot dead throughout the city in separate incidents between Saturday morning and early Monday.

Fatally wounded when a gunman shot him during a robbery in Southwest Philadelphia's Mount Moriah section Saturday morning was Joseph Wisman, who lived nearby on Felton Street near Woodland Avenue. Police said Wisman, 45, was on Simpson Street near Upland at 7:15 a.m. when the unknown gunman approached him and shot him in the chest. Wisman was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:53 a.m., police said, and no arrests have been made in his murder.

About nine hours later, in West Philadelphia's Overbrook section, 17-year-old Tremaine Rogers died shortly after 4 p.m. after being shot once in the lower back on the block of 64th Street near Haddington Lane where he lived. Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and his killer remains at large.

William Kenneth Wise, 43, was fatally shot not far from his home in North Philadelphia just before 1 a.m. Sunday, police said. Cops said Wise, of Huntingdon Street near 27th, was on 27th Street near Sterner when someone shot him in the head, killing him. Police said they do not know why Wise, who was pronounced dead on the street at 1:03 a.m., was slain, and have not yet made an arrest in the shooting.

About 10 hours later, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot on a Kensington street corner, according to police. Alfred McCrory died at Temple University Hospital just before noon Sunday after he was shot several times in the head and back on Bellmore Street near Frankford Avenue at 11:18 a.m. Police said they do not know what led to McCrory's murder and have not made any arrests in connection with it.

Shortly after 9 o'clock Sunday night, a 32-year-old man became the fifth person killed over the weekend when he was shot several times in the chest, arms and leg on Reed Street near 27th in Grays Ferry, police said. The victim, whose name is being withheld by police pending family notification, was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m.

Less than an hour later, police said, 21-year-old Craig Jackson, of Whitaker Avenue near Herkness Street in Crescentville, was gunned down on a basketball court near B Street and Olney Avenue in the city's Olney neighborhood. Police said an argument precipitated the shooting. Jackson was wounded once in the chest and died shortly after 11 p.m. No arrests have been made.

The bloodshed continued into the wee hours of Monday morning, police said, when a 35-year-old man was shot dead on Luzerne Street near 7th in Hunting Park around 2:30 a.m. The victim, whom police have not yet identified, was taken to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead an hour after he was shot. Cops said they haven't yet determined a motive or made an arrest in that shooting.

The weekend's seven homicides bring the year's murder tally to 130, according to police statistics, down from 187 as of this date last year.
