Timothy Ballard (left) and Kevin Wilson, suspects arrested in N. Philadelphia robberies

Police on Monday announced the arrest of the second suspect wanted in connection with several gunpoint robberies in North Philadelphia.

Timothy Ballard, 33, of Erie Avenue near 9th Street, surrendered to police on Wednesday. The other suspect, Kevin Wilson, 27, of Franklin Street near Butler, surrendered on Dec. 5.

After receiving several anonymous tips, police identified the pair as suspects in the November robberies, including those of at least four of Temple University students near the school’s main campus.

Both men face charges of robbery and related offenses.

I often read about the arrests, but see little about the subsequent legal proceedings and/or punishment. Can you please provide those updates in the future? If not here, maybe it could be in a different section of the site. Frankly, reports of these arrests are only as heartening as the punishments that flow from them.

I got in a time machine, evolutionary, and saw how this case was concluded. Now I'm back; here's your update: they both pled down - way down - from their initial charges, because the DA's office didn't want to take a chance with Philly juries, and because keeping people out of jail, and a "soft" approach to criminal law enforcement in general, help our DA politically (I took another trip a little further into the future, and saw that he's gonna run for mayor)).

Also, the presence of several glaring young men, who appeared to be associates of the accused, seemed to have a strange effect on the memories of a couple of their victims, who were suddenly unable to recall the precise details of being robbed at gunpoint. The mandatory penalties for the gun charges were, of course, ignored - this is Philadelphia; we do things differently here. They're both back out on the street - these were their first (known) acts of armed robbery, and it's unreasonable and cold-hearted to suppose that it might be a predictor of future conduct, and the best way to hold people accountable for their actions is to not hold them accountable for their actions...but they're on parole, so we have nothing to worry about.

Oh, and everyone they pointed a gun at and threatened with lethal force (hey, kids make mistakes) took their Temple degrees and got the he11 out of here. Don't worry, though; tourists don't read local papers before they come here.

If you don't want to be robbed near Temple, don't build nice houses and live there. These fine men are part of the real community, not you 'newcomers'. *note my sarcasm
