Police are searching for a man who stole $875,000 worth of jewelry from an apartment in Rittenhouse Square two weeks ago.

Around 11:40 a.m. on Jan. 18, a man got off an elevator inside a building on the southwest corner of Rittenhouse Square and walked into an apartment, police said.

He took various pieces of jewelry from the apartment and returned to the elevator about two minutes later, police said. The man took the elevator down to the lobby and ran from the building through its rear exit on Locust Street near 20th.

Police describe the suspect as a bald black man who is about 30 years old, and is about 6 feet tall. He has a heavy build and was wearing a blue or green jacket, a knit cap and dark jeans, police said.
