Reputed mob solider charged with murder

Reputed mob solider Anthony Nicodemo has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Gino DiPietro yesterday afternoon.

Reputed mob solider Anthony Nicodemo, 41, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Gino DiPietro yesterday afternoon.

DiPietro, 50, was gunned down on the sidewalk outside of his house on Iseminger Street near Johnston in South Philly around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

DiPietro is believed to be a mob associate and has a history of federal drug convictions, according to sources and court documents.

The killing came just hours after federal prosecutors rested their case against reputed mob boss Joseph "Uncle Joe" Ligambi and his associates in a racketeering trial.

Police have not yet determined a definitive motive for the shooting, but if the killing was mob-related, it would be the first mob hit in Philadelphia since 2003.

"We have a lot of rumors and innuendos out there, but nothing has been founded yet," said Homicide Sgt. Bob Wilkins.
