Ramsey gets pay bump to stay

After a month of speculation that his bags were all but packed to return home to Chicago, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey announced this afternoon that he'll remain in Philadelphia.

Ramsey will also get a pay bump out of the deal, as his salary will go from $195,000 to $255,000. Mayor Nutter said that Ramsey was grossly underpaid.

The new salary brings some new responsibility. Nutter had asked Ramsey to work with the school district to develop a comprehensive anti-violence plan.

Ramsey says Nutter "very aggressively " made it clear that he wanted the commissioner stay.

He said three factors played into his decision to stay: the potential of the department to improve, his relationship with the families of the fallen police officers and Nutter's vision for the city going forward. "I want to be a part of it," he said.

Ramsey said he was "totally prepared" to go back to Chicago.

He's a great man and he's trying hard. This is a great city and Nutter is a great mayor despite what you complainers say.

Even the biggest Ramsey cheerleaders have to pause at the extra 50k and the ability to do outside work. The fact that he thought Rahm was going to give him 400K is laughable.

What a crock a raise he will be working with Ackerman what about The Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector who is working with her, what is he doing or is it just another patronage job.Nutter has no respect for the Citizens of Philadelphia. He has the power to have Ackerman removed and he did not have to give more money to the Commissioner .Don't tell me Homicides are down he has nothing at all too do with that..actually they are up this year so Way a raise ......

He realized his job here is not done. He has promised that the goal of 400 murders a year, in Philadelphia will be achieved!
