Police officer injured in Center City crash

POSTED: Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 12:11 AM

A female Philadelphia police officer suffered fractures to her leg and pelvis when her crusier was struck in Center City last night. Police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore said the 48-year-old officer was riding north on 7th Street, on her way to back up another cop, when a motorist traveling east on Market slammed into the cop car.

Rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to pry the officer out of the crumpled car. Vanore said the officer was "awake and complaining of pain" when she was admitted to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She was listed in stable condition late last night.

The driver of the other car was unharmed. No charges were filed.

The Red Robot did you think that by prefacing your statement w/ "sexism aside" would make it less sexist. I HATE when people preface a rude statement w/ "not to be rude but [insert rude statement here] or "not to be prejudiced but [insert prejudiced statement here]." That's dumb just STFU already! Anyway sometimes accidents happen, someone doesn't always have to be in the wrong. BUT I find that a lot of cops speed through red lights w/ just lights and no sirens...an accident waiting to happen.

Red Robot, you've obviously never seen Officer Laverne Hooks from the Police Academy movies. "DON'T MOVE, DIRTBAG!"

I can't believe all of you can figure out ALL the facts from that tiny tid-bit of info - what less than 100 words. YOU all should be cops. It says no charge were filed - that doesn't me none WILL be filed. Even so, it could very well have been an accident - even if the cop had lights & sirens the person driving the other car might not have been able to stop in time. Lowell, if it were you or your family, you would be screaming for every dollar the city has to get back to normal. The officer was hurt and deserves all the resources available to her. And thanks to all of you for playing into Red's silliness - it only encourages him.

Red, The 18 yr old robber can't outrun a 9 mil bullet fired from the 48 yr old female cop's gun. End of argument. Now, let's talk about cops running red lights for the hell of it.
