A 23-year-old man was buying a cigar from a cashier at a North Philly gas station about 9 tonight when another man approached him, pulled out and gun and started firing.
The victim, whose name was not released, collapsed to the ground after he was struck by several bullets at the BP gas station at Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue, said police Chief Inspector Scott Small.
The gunman stood over the man and kept firing. Thirteen shell casings were found at the scene, Small said. “He was hot at least two times in the head and four times in the chest,” Small said. The victim died at Temple University Hospital at 9:17 p.m.
Small said the murderer, a black man who wore a dark mask over his face, fled on foot. A handful of eyewitnesses were interviewed by police last night, and investigators planned on reviewing nearby surveillance cameras to see if the slaying was caught on tape.
