Police have identified the 22-year-old man who was killed by a hit and run driver on Roosevelt Boulevard early Monday morning as Martin Xol.
Early reports indicated that the man was hit by the car after exiting a SEPTA bus.
However, Jerri Williams, a SEPTA spokeswoman, said the man was not one of the passengers exiting the route R bus on the corner of Roosevelt Boulevard and 4th Street at about 1:50 a.m.
The bus driver who was on the scene of the fatal accident said a maroon car that hit Xol was in front of the bus and was driving through a green light when he stepped off the curb along 5th Street to cross Roosevelt Boulevard and was hit, Williams said.
The car fled the scene after the accident and the bus driver called 911, Williams said.
She added that accident investigators took a statement from the driver a few hours after the incident.
Williams said witnesses were on the scene, and that in most cases on-board SEPTA surveillance systems could help police in their investigation.
“Unfortunately many of our buses have cameras mounted externally and internally, but this particular one did not,” she said.
