Police release new footage in Germantown kidnapping

As the hunt for the person who kidnapped Carlesha Freeland-Gaither drags on, investigators have released new information that they hope will identify a person of interest in the case.

In new surveillance footage, released tonight, a man who police say may be connected to Freeland-Gaither's disappearance Sunday night can be seen patronizing a convenience store.

The man in the footage appears to be the same individual who police say used Freeland-Gaither's debit card at a PNC Bank branch in Aberdeen, Maryland early Monday morning.

Strengthening this link is the video's timestamp, which shows that it was recorded at 6 a.m. on Monday.

Detectives from Northwest Division said tonight that they couldn't confirm that the two men are the same person, and said that FBI investigators have been reviewing similar footage from convenience stores located along Interstate 95.

Freeland-Gaither, 22, a certified nursing assistant at Presbyterian Hospital, grew up in Maryland, according to her family members.

She was abducted by an unknown man on Coulter Street near Greene about 9:30 Sunday night in a violent attack that was caught on a surveillance camera.

Since that disturbing image was distributed by police, Freeland-Gaither's story has made national headlines, and the reward for information leading to her safe return has ballooned to $47,000 from various benefactors, including the city, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union.
