A 21-year-veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department was arrested Monday on allegations of theft and receiving stolen property, police said.

Officer Kevin Workman, 47, allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money and had been under investigation since the summer, police said.

Details were not immediately available on how much money Workman allegedly stole and from where.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey has suspended Workman for 30 days with intent to dismiss, said Tanya Little, a police spokeswoman.

Workman is the 35th police officer to be arrested since 2009. He was assigned to the 2nd Police District, which covers parts of Northeast Philadelphia.

This is further proof that Grandpa Ramsey is clueless when it comes to cleaning up this police department. How many is that now Grandpa Ramsey in two years? 35? Richard Ross would have been a better choice because at least Ross would have a better idea where the “proverbial bodies are buried” with respect getting to the bottom of some of these internal affairs matters.

It's good to see these arrests. Certain previous DA's and police chiefs would have never done this. In the long run, society is better off if crooked cops sit in jail where they belong. I for one am glad to see something that we would never have seen 10 years ago. Not all cops are bad, and society will start believing in the cops that are out there if the bad ones are taken off the street.

It's great to get rid of rotten cops, but if anybody thinks that these arrests are all for the good of the department and the public, you are sadly mistaken. It's just classic misdirection. Let's focus on the bad cops (and sadly there are many)instead of the rising crime.

Speak truth, it may not be Ramsay but someone is doing their job. 35 arrests is a pretty good number. And no offense a crime is a crime no matter who is committing it and where. If you have good cops out there instead of crooks, the streets will become clean. Bad cops promote violence.

What is a bigger disgrace is that state legislators refuse to address the completely out of control crime being committed by officers of the law. There needs to be elevated sentencing mandated for those officers of the law who are convicted of crimes. How much more crime needs to be committed by cops until the state does something about adding a stiff legislative punhc???

Brother man I'm shaking my head. 21 years down the drain. Bet ya it was for chump change. After you finish doing your time you're going to be a middle age ex con with limited skills. Try competing for a job with a resume like that. If your lucky you can get a job pushing a broom somewhere. You blew it big time loser.

I'm not shocked at all. A few months ago 2 cops robbed a club, cause they thought no one was lookin. Then 3 cops robbed some drug dealers, n took their money. So I guess Kevin will apologize, and get to keep his job after Mr Ramsey thinks the public forgot all about the robbery. What will the kids think about that?

Commissioner Ramsey has stated several times in the past that there will be more police firings from corrupt officers, he has done an outstanding job at weeding out those who feel entitled and above the law.

Philadelphia is going to have to go out to the suburbs to hire officers.
