Police officer arrested on assault charges

A Philadelphia Police officer was arrested on assault charges this week and is likely to be fired within the next 30 days, police said.

He and his girlfriend were on Edison Avenue near Station Road in Somerton when the two got into an argument and fight with three other women, police said.

The Internal Affairs Bureau investigated the incident, and Alexander was charged with three counts each of criminal conspiracy, assault and reckless endangerment, according to court documents.

Alexander is a 3-year veteran of the department and is the 36th officer to be arrested since 2009.

He was assigned to the 24th District, which covers areas of Port Richmond, Kensington, Harrowgate and Juniata Park, police said.  

Alexander is free after posting $2,000 bail and will appear in court on Nov. 29, according to court documents.
