Police are investigating a shooting in Nicetown that left a 57-year-old man lying dead on the pavement in front of his home Monday night.

The unidentified man apparently was getting out of his car on Nice Street near Lycoming when he was shot once in the back of his head, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:44 p.m.

Police found a 45 mm shell casing on the scene, and are looking for a man who was recorded on a surveillance camera at a nearby gas station around the same time as the shooting. Cops said the man – whom they described as black and wearing a purple hat, a dark grey sweater, black jeans and white shoes -- was considered a person of interest.

There were no reported witnesses to the shooting, no weapon was recovered and no arrests were made.
