Police have arrested a Fernhill man for the shooting death last month of an Ogontz man.

Marcus D. Brooking, 30, of Tacoma Street near Seymour, was charged with murder and related offenses for the Aug. 10 slaying of Julius Black, 28, of Nedro Avenue near 21st Street, said Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman. Black was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Seymour Street near Wayne Avenue, just a half block from Brooking's home, about 10:15 p.m. that night, Russell said. He died 20 minutes later at Temple University Hospital.

Police still have the motive listed as unknown. Black was a father of one, according to his obituary. Brooking already was in custody on an unrelated case when he was charged with Black's homicide, Russell said. Court records show he is a repeat offender with arrests dating to 2002 for gun and drug offenses, aggravated assault, driving under the influence, disorderly conduct and theft.
