Cops have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman whose body was found in the passenger seat of a car at a Rhawnhurst apartment complex early Monday night.

The woman, who remains unidentified but is estimated to be in her mid-20s, was found in a light-blue Toyota Celica parked in a lot behind apartments on Algon Avenue near Borbeck shortly after 6 p.m. Chief Inspector Scott Small said police believe she had been there for at least 12 hours before she was found, and that neighbors thought she'd been sleeping in the car.

Police said there were no visible signs of trauma found on the woman’s body, and results of an autopsy by the Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death are pending.
