Police: Suspect hit cop with car, then fled

Police were looking for a black Nissan Maxima that they say fled the scene of a narcotics investigation after striking an undercover officer.

Police are looking for an older-model black Nissan Maxima that they say fled from 63rd and Oxford streets in Overbrook after allegedly deliberately striking an undercover officer around 6:30 p.m.

Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division said undercover narcotics officers were conducting an investigation of the vehicle and had one man apprehended when a second man took off in the car, striking one of the plainclothes officers. The officer discharged his weapon once during the incident, Walker said, but police were unsure of whether the bullet struck anything or anyone, because the Nissan fled at a high speed. Walker said no one had turned up at an area hospital with a gunshot wound as of 7:45 p.m.

The injured officer was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and listed in stable condition with a leg injury.

The Nissan was last seen headed westbound on Lebanon Avenue.
