Police: One dead in South Philadelphia double shooting

One man is dead and another is hospitalized after a shooting in South Philadelphia, police said.

One man is dead and another is hospitalized after a shooting in South Philadelphia, police said.

Police were called to Ringgold Street near Tasker at 10:41 p.m. and found both victims lying on the sidewalk on Ringgold Street. One, a 35-year-old man who was shot several times in the back, was unconscious when police arrived, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. The second victim, a 22-year-old man shot in the buttocks, was conscious.

Both were rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where the 35-year-old was pronounced dead just after 11 p.m., Small said. The other victim was in stable condition as of midnight.

Small said at least nine shots were fired on the block, and several surveillance cameras on area businesses may have captured part of the shooting. Witnesses were taken to the Homicide Unit to be interviewed by detectives, and it was unclear early Friday what led to the gunfire.

Police remained at the scene investigating after midnight.

It was the second double shooting of the night, after two men were shot earlier in North Philadelphia's Hartranft section. Both of those men, police said, were in stable condition.
