Police: Man shot dead in Strawberry Mansion

A man is dead in Strawberry Mansion, and drugs may have played a role, police said.

Officers in the 22nd District arrived at Myrtlewood Street near Sedgley Avenue just before 7 p.m. tonight and found a 39-year-old male lying on the sidewalk, Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The victim had been shot once in the neck and was pronounced dead at the scene minutes after police found him.

Four shell casings were found near the male's body, indicating he had been shot at close range, Small said.

A later search of the victim at the Medical Examiner's Office turned up several bags of what appear to be narcotics, indicating a possible drug connection in the slaying.

There is no information on a suspect or motive available, Small said.

The investigation is ongoing.
