A man was shot dead on a South Philadelphia street Monday evening, police said.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said the 24-year-old man was outside on 21st Street near Mifflin when he was shot in the head and the body. Medics pronounced the victim dead on the sidewalk at 7:42 p.m.

Small said based on information provided by a witness, police arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting. He said cameras from a bar across the street likely captured the shooting, and homicide detectives would review the surveillance footage.

It was the second homicide reported Monday. A 19-year-old man died at Temple University Hospital after being shot in the chest twice in Harrowgate shortly before 4 p.m.
